Little House on the Prairie is an American Western drama television series, starring Michael Landon, Melissa Gilbert, and Karen Grassle, about a family living on a farm in Walnut Grove, Minnesota, in the 1870s and 1880s.
I would guess so, there's a scene of real horses pulling a real wagon through a real river and getting whipped, hard to watch. It's in the first episode. They use real animals for things a lot especially horses so be cautious of that. Remembered that there's a real snake shot on screen too, I forgot the episode number but it's the one where Mr. Edwards is taking care of the girls by himself.
In season 3 episode 10 there's a shot of a real horse rolling roughly down a rocky hill
In season 9 episode 19 there’s a real orangutan used in the episode. Hopefully it was treated alright but using apes and monkeys in films can be stressful for them and is generally not great.
there is a sexual assault in season 7 and some premarital sex implied in other parts of the show. other than that only talks of becoming pregnant but no details given
“Child of Pain” portrays a child forgiving his father for the physical abuse he inflicted on him. The father is supposedly rehabilitated by the end of the episode.
A soldier, Granville Whipple, returns home and suffers from PTSD. A war bugle serves as a trigger. Granville is shown having flashbacks to war where he is amongst explosions and is being chased by a dead comrade. When the flashbacks become worse, he lashes out at others verbally and seeks out morphine to dull his pain.
The entire premise of “Child of Pain” is that a child is being physically abused by his alcoholic father. During the episode, the father stops drinking alcohol and is supposedly rehabilitated as a parent.
Granville Whipple, a former soldier with PTSD who has returned to Walnutgrove after 12 years, struggles with a morphine addiction. He uses the morphine to numb his PTSD. He was clean for 9 months but relapsed when his PTSD was triggered. He overdoses and passes.
Just skip this episode. The beginning is a scene of a pack of wild dogs chasing a sheep. The sheep is presumably killed off camera. The rest of the episode depicts a wolf pack attacking and killing livestock, and ends with a pack of dogs being killed.
Nellie whips her horse to an unnecessary amount just to make Laura and Mary mad. You do not see the whip hitting the horse, but it’s heavily implied. Nellie gets her comeuppance seconds later.
Not exactly excessive, but Caroline Ingals cuts herself on some fencing and the cut gets very infected. You think she’s going to cut off her leg, but she just cuts open the infection and she’s healed in the next scene.
Several infants and children tragically pass away throughout the series as the infant and child mortality rate was very high at the time the show was set (late 1800s) and without modern medicine nothing could be done for them.
The Ingals and the Olesons camp near a river. Laura and Nellie fall into the river and are whisked away by it at one point. They struggle to escape the river as they float on some foliage.
Not sure which season (I think it's like 8-9?) but it's the episode where Albert is found taking drugs. Skip the part where's he's on bed and his legs are shaking uncontrollably to a few minutes after. I watched it once and it was very bad, vis and audio if I remember correctly
Several children are born throughout the show but no births are shown. the women, midwives, and doctor all go into the room alone for several minutes then a baby is heard crying and a child appears. there are a few scenes of expectant mothers in pain and yelling during labor
A little girl, Olga, has a disability (one leg is longer than the other). A lot of the kids leave her out of games because of this. Eventually, Charles Ingals constructs a special boot that allows her to play with the other kids. Nellie still finds a way to bully her though.
One of the main characters falls in love with a jewish man and her family makes several stereotypical remarks about jewish people and there appearances. before this happens there is also several comments about another jewish person in town and antisemitic comments about their appearance
