This movie contains 41 potentially triggering events.
sort of - it's pushing the definition, but two characters become tied up in a family's life in a way that is non-consensual and an extreme violation of privacy.
debatable but there are no instances in which one family member is physically/verbally abusive to the other, but there is a great deal of tension in the family and some moments of emotional screaming
[SPOILER WARNING]
the child abductor implies that he abducted children because he was hurt when he was a little boy, and one of the people terrorizing the family does so because he was hurt as a little boy as well.
SPOILER ALERT
one character is dedicated to making a family question their sanity in small, but effective ways. (removing photos from their frames, remotely messing with electronics, etc.)
one of the threads of the movie is about a kidnapper. discussion of the case involves murder and child molestation. none of this is shown on-screen except for a scene of kids (seemingly unharmed) locked in cabinets. we see one crime scene photo of a child's corpse, but only the hands. not graphic. a child is interviewed about being kidnapped.
unclear. characters take sleeping pills (ambien) throughout the movie, but they're framed more as dysfunctional and stressed about their family situation than having an actual drug addiction.
No. There is none of this. but something falls on someone's head badly injuring them, and later a character is hit with something. Another falls down stairs and hits their head, all sounds of the hits are loud. Some blood is seen.
we see kids locked in cabinets and it's implied bad things have been done or might be done to them. another character is drugged and tied up in an empty bathtub. people are psychologically tormented in ways ranging from very slight and aggravating to gross and invasive. (getting peed on while sleeping.)
CharacterA might have been pushed by CharacterB, it's not clear. CharacterA falls down stairs, hits their head at the bottom, the sound of the hit is loud.
Nothing is seen or mentioned, but one character is drugged into a stupor and I cannot think of any other way it could happen the way it did other than with a needle.
Some people do violent things and blame it on their own trauma. The most violent person may be lying about this, though. There is no confirmation the main villain is mentally ill
There is one scene where a character is talking to a camera whilst eating something out of a mug, sometimes you can hear eating noises but only very faintly. I could hear it through my headphones but it lasts for about 1-2 minutes if that
Not officially mentioned but a side character starts screaming "no no no no" when seeing a police officer from his past abduction case, so it is implied
YES there are strobe effects. Mild flashing when the mother is speaking to her son in his room, and major strobing for the final couple of minutes of the film.
CharacterA brings up CharacterB having been pregnant once, and it sounds as if they're saying things would have been better if that hadn't happened. Or they're saying CharacterB thinks that, I'm not sure.
No actual gay representation but a man who sexually abuses boys dies. Of course this is not really LGBT and the death isn't sad but this storyline may still be difficult to watch for related reasons
There's a man who molests boys which is not great gay representation obviously. But this character is not shown as being actually gay outside of CSA so I'm not sure he even counts as LGBT
Not shown. Strongly implied child sexual abuse by an adult. It's pretty clear at one point since CharacterA is called a "convicted paedophile" and in the u.s. where this movie is located, the meaning is fairly explicit i.e. a paedophile is someone with sexual interest in children below the age of 13, but a conviction means they have acted upon those urges and faced trial for it.
nobody is hit by a car, but a character backs up their car while distracted and almost hits someone in their driveway, but slams the brakes on just in time.
