Magnum, P.I. is an American television series starring Tom Selleck as Thomas Magnum, a private investigator living on Oahu, Hawaii. The series ran from 1980 to 1988 in first-run broadcast on the American CBS television network.
According to the Nielsen ratings, Magnum, P.I. consistently ranked in the top twenty U.S. television programs during the first five years that the series was originally broadcast in the United States. Originally appearing in a prime time American network timeslot of 8 p.m. Eastern on Thursdays, Magnum, P.I. was one of the highest-rated shows on U.S. television.
Near the end of the episode the owner of a macaw bird orders it to attack Magnum. It scratches up his face with its talons. Magnum ends up avoiding serious injuries but you can see the blood on his face afterwards.
A 15 year old says that her father left when she was 3. She hasn't seen him since. He has sent birthday cards but they're always sent in the wrong month.
In this episode "The Taking of Dick McWilliams" a character named Gloria is implied to be an alcoholic. She doesn't have a very big part in the episode.
A beloved pet bird (a macaw) dies more or less on camera (we see the flutter of feathers to show the death) and some pet birds of paradise are mentioned to have been eaten by the previously mentioned bird.
Not much on camera, but yes. A character in the episode is running cock fights. We see some of the roosters in cages. We do not see any cock fights. The police raid the place before the end of the episode.
When Carol opens a package at work she finds it full of crumpled up newspapers. She talks to Magnum about a man named Lazarus being up for parole, and then a spider crawls out of the box and scares her. The spider is captured and identified as harmless, I think they said it was a wolf spider.
Depends on your definition? A woman is kidnapped, tied to a chair, and then kissed without her consent. So the kiss could be considered sexual assault, but it doesn't go farther than that. It seemed less serious to me in the context of all the other stuff the guy was doing.
A woman gets punched in the face when she tries to practice a kung fu on a man who has not had it clearly explained to him what was going to happen. He was told to just stand there (without much explanation) and when the woman tries to attack him he defends himself with a single punch to the face. Everyone is mad at him and scandalized, but I think he had a common instinctive reaction for someone who doesn't know what's going on.
There's a 15 year old girl living in an apt with a man (a drug dealer). I didn't see evidence that he was pimping her out and it was never explicitly said that he had been with her himself but it seems very likely that he was committing statutory rape when it came to her.
No but it's mentioned that Ric has been doing his best to raise his little sister ever since their parents died. Not sure how many years ago that was. His little sister is 22 in the episode.
During this episode Ric's sister is visiting him and is murdered. It's his little sister, though she's 22. He has been raising her since their parents died.
There are roosters that are used for cock fighting. It's mentioned that they didn't work razor blades attached to their feet but we don't see a fight and I didn't see any razor blades.
In more than one episode Magnum and/or one of his friends are in the local jail and they get bailed out. It's nothing serious and they don't always show the inside of the jail in the episode.
No, but Ric gets a cut on his forehead and when we see him later he has stitches but they don't really look like they were done by a Dr and there's no explanation for why he has such terrible stitches.
Kind of? Ric is dealing with the immediate trauma of shock and grief. It's not what you'd traditionally think of as mental illness, but he's not in his right mind either.
In the season 3 premiere there is a flashback to Magnum, T.C., and some other American soldiers being held as POWs. A vietnamese officer picks on (African-American) T.C., making several derogatory comments, including calling him "boy" and using the N word twice. Magnum tries to protect his friend by faking an argument, saying that T.C. is from the ghetto and doesn't know how to read or write. T.C. responds in kind, using the words "honky" and "cracker" as he argues. Episode two is a "part two" episode so, a long the same theme, the N word is used a couple more times by a Vietnamese soldier. Or so it seems, to T.C.
There's a sauna scene but the guys in there have towels around their waists. There's also a scene where a woman starts taking her clothes off in public but she has different clothes on underneath.
No, as long as you're not sad about the bird. Magnum is not sad about the bird (it was attacking him right before it died) so for Magnum the episode has a happy ending.
