The manifest for the movie notes that 'all animals that are killed in the movie should be real animals, and if possible, that they should be eaten'. It should be noted that whether this manifest was followed is uncertain, and that it is likely just a piece of marketing meant to stir debate.
No acts of a sexual nature are performed on any animals, however a character does penetrate a cow with her hand similarly to how an insemination would be performed by a vet. In the same scene she is also inviting you towards the cow's hind and pulls a hat out of the cow.
Regarding humans, it is mostly limited to simple blood effects. There is however multiple butchered animals in the movie, including a reindeer, cow and fish.
Characters in the movie are shown naked, as well as to be masturbating, bathing, and having sex. Some scenes portraying sex are between consenting partners, others are sexual assault or rape. Some scenes are also generally lewd, like Peder engaging with a tree and imagining it to be a woman.
Ellen Margrethe is sleeping in her bunk bed as her house catches fire and explodes, she is unfaced by this and wakes up the following day in her bunk questioning where the house has gone.
Both Karl and Ellen Margrethe are shown to be abusive parents, both physically and mentally. Karl also shows little regards for the will of his daughter, Anna, and forces her into an arranged marriage so she can bear him a grandson. Ellen Margrethe disregards the violence Peder enacts upon Ante, saying "Ante could become sad" after Peder throws an axe towards him.
A man wears a dress for large parts of the movie after his other clothes are ruined, no jokes are made about this at his expense and there is no transphobic subtext.
Karl is shown drowning his late wife, Magda, in the ocean, and later drowns after being haunted by her. Karl also almost drowns in a bog, but is saved last minute.
Ante willingly takes psychedelic mushrooms. He later feeds some to a sick Karl. A couple of scenes later Karl is being treated in a shaman ritual, and is having a very bad trip, appearing extremely frightened.
Movie plays a bit loose with the rules and time moves with no regard for time. A pregnancy might last only a week, musicians will appear when needed, the world is a bit unhinged. Things happen and time moves in whatever way moves the plot along. Reality is not unstable in an inception/interstellar type of way though.
Peder removes several fingers using an axe in a fit of despair. In the aftermath we see him clenching his hand, and for the rest of the movie his hand is bandaged.
Anna is stalked in parts of the movie by Peder. He follows her through the woods and watches her bathe, he then confronts her with this information and attempts to rape her. Anna manages to knock him out with a high heel and runs off.
Anna is married to Peder by way of an arranged marriage she doesn't consent to. After the marriage she sleeps with Ante and Normann, though this is cheating only by technicality.
Some scenes jumping between under and over the water play as Karl is drowning. We also see under the water as Karl is drowning Magda. The scenes shown take place at a beach, with waters roughly 2 meters deep at most.
In later parts of the movie Peder has a melt down after learning his mom has died and his (arranged marriage) wife has borne the children of other men. He has a violent meltdown leading to the final confrontation of the movie.
