Disney creates a whole new breed of comedy with a character unlike any other. Meet Spot, a clever little dog with big dreams of becoming a real boy. When Spot finds out that a crazy scientist can make his wish come true, he takes a cross-country trek with his best friend and master Leonard and their mom. However, Dr. Krank's experiments are a little less than perfect, and it will take Leonard and his pet pals to right this genetic wrong.
The mad scientist’s whole thing is turning animals into humans. But he often fails at that, and they turn into human/animal hybrids instead. One of them has an eyeball that falls out once in awhile. The scientist is very mean to his creations.
All of this, of course, is portrayed in a very cartoony way that doesn’t really reflect the horrible nature of real-life animal abuse.
It is a cartoon so none of this is treated seriously, but it was implied the nephew of the scientist has been grounded for very long periods of time.
The mother of Leonard does leave them alone in an unfamiliar area for long periods of time, and they are free to roam (though this is probably not considered abuse to many, I’d just thought I’d mention it)
I only remember one instance of vomiting and there is audio but it’s hard to hear over the music. It is an incredibly short moment in the last song where a cartoon baby tree pukes. It comes right after Spot sings, “I’ll be spot on!” In a movie theater. It is shown for less than 2 seconds. After Spot sings “when a tree needs a mom(?)” it is okay to look again.
There is a message that is pretty controversial by today’s standards, and it might be considered sad to some since Spot end’s up pressured to go back to a dog’s life. He even says “this dogs learned it’s lesson.” It is easy to interpret some aspects as being anti-trans, since the takeaway is essentially to “not mess with nature,” accept who you are, and that science is evil. But I said it is not a sad ending since the characters end up happy.

Spoiler:
At the end, Spot gets vaporized (turned into dust) so Leonard starts crying, but he is soon afterwards brought back to life and they live happily.
