Deputy Police Chief Brenda Jean Johnson transfers from Atlanta to LA to head up a special unit of the LAPD that handles sensitive, high-profile murder cases. Season 4, Epsiode 6 @ 9 min. mark - the team digs up what turns out to be a dead geman shepard. They show the dead dog. I turned it off at this point, but a few minutes earlier it is discussed that the problem teenager on this street tortured and killed his adopted sister’s cat so it’s most likely that he killed this neighbor’s dog, too.
Season 4, Epsiode 1 @ 25 min. mark - a dead, burned rat is found and held up for a bit

A teenage boy with autism is a focal point of the episode. One of the officers uses the slur and is politely corrected, but not told that the term is a slur. It is played as the wrong thing to say and not used casually or humorously.
Brenda’s mom dies in Season 7, Epsiode 19. At the end of the episode, Brenda finds her mother passed away in her guest room bed when Brenda goes to bring her coffee in the morning.
season 1, episode 12 - psychologist describing a criminal’s childhood mentions how the guy made his family cat swallow a firecracker (around 7 min 30 sec mark)
season 4, episode 6 - teenage girl tells the team how the boy her family adopted tortured and killed her cat. (around 5 minute mark)
season 5, epsiode 3 - Brenda has to put down Kitty as there is nothing more the vet can do for her failing kidneys. They don’t show Kitty being put the sleep, just Brenda saying goodbye to Kitty as the vet is coming over. The previous episodes show Kitty sick as well, and in Season 5, Episode 2, you do see Kitty getting fluids injected into her by Brenda.
