In 1967 Los Angeles, a widowed mother and her two daughters add a new stunt to bolster their séance scam business and unwittingly invite authentic evil into their home. When the youngest daughter is overtaken by the merciless spirit, this small family confronts unthinkable fears to save her and send her possessor back to the other side.
No one is "beat up" but one of the bullies attempts to use a slingshot on their victim. The intended victim doesn't actually get shot with it though because *demons*
It isn't shown, but it's implied a kid puts out his own eye with a slingshot. The sound and the implication may be triggering if this is an issue for you.
Possessed child unhinges her jaw and has her mouth go inhumanly wide multiple times. Another character also has a dream sequence where her mouth melts together.
At about 1 h 11 minutes. Spoiler alert but it is best to look away once Doris whispers in the boys’ ear and his eyes show he is possessed, too. It happens pretty fast after that and also very suddenly. It takes about a minute, you hear the people leaving the room and going downstairs. At 1 h 17 min 55 seconds or so the body is seen again later during the chase a few times, at about 1 h 18 mins and 10 seconds or so and dangling at 1 h 19 mins 10 seconds. I would recommend skipping a couple of full minutes. The body finally falls to the ground at about 1 h 20 mins. After that there is no hanging.
Someone is hung by the neck and it may have been self-inflicted (it’s ambiguous how exactly the character got into the noose). However, it is strongly implied that the character was possessed and/or influenced by an evil spirit at the time, so they were not acting of their own accord.
I would argue that through possession, multiple characters harm or kill themselves. They didn't want to, but were made to do so through the entity. This content may still be triggering if suicide is an issue for you.
At the end a character is shown coming back from a flashback to a mental health professional asking "where did you go just now?" in reference to where her memory took her.
surprisingly minimal for horror film, watched all the way through waiting for and expecting the worst (aka the usual flashing lightbulbs, lightning etc) but there’s none of that and really only flickering candlelight towards the start, and one scene with distorted static images on the tv in the background
