As children in the loving Ekdahl family, Fanny and Alexander enjoy a happy life with their parents, who run a theater company. After their father dies unexpectedly, however, the siblings end up in a joyless home when their mother, Emilie, marries a stern bishop. The bleak situation gradually grows worse as the bishop becomes more controlling, but dedicated relatives make a valiant attempt to aid Emilie, Fanny and Alexander.
There is a longer miniseries version, and at the very beginning of the 4th episode, it shows a graphic decaying corpse of a little white dog. I’ve seen the original movie version many times, so this was shocking to me.

i’m assuming the other person who’s commented means only in the television version but the bishop does in the 3 hour theatrical version at 2h43m after he’s had the broth
This film is set in Sweden in the 19th century; their Christmas traditions are different and the children believing in Santa isn't the same as in Anglophone countries. Marking this a Yes over the servants putting the gifts under the tree is not only inaccurate, but pretty silly.
