It's sad in the sense that while everything is kept the same, Adrien will never find out that Gabriel is a villain, and it lets him get away with his crimes while passing on the title of main villain to Lila.

In the season 4 episode "Ephemeral," for reasons, the universe starts to destroy itself so that it can be created again within Hawkmoth's new wished reality. When this starts to happen, it does resemble a nuclear explosion. There is also a massive explosion in "Chat Blanc" that wipes out everyone, and it could also be compared to a nuclear explosion.
