Strange things begin to occurs as a tiny California coastal town prepares to commemorate its centenary. Inanimate objects spring eerily to life; Rev. Malone stumbles upon a dark secret about the town's founding; radio announcer Stevie witnesses a mystical fire; and hitchhiker Elizabeth discovers the mutilated corpse of a fisherman. Then a mysterious iridescent fog descends upon the village, and more people start to die.
The way the ghosts stand silently pounding at people's doors and windows in the fog is pretty reminiscent of stalking to me. As someone who dealt with a stalker who would stand at my door for long stretches of time, I was on edge during these scenes.
after elizabeth says she's going to vancouver, a bunch of stuff from the boat falls on her. the second collapse includes a corpse with the eyes gored out. an autopsy is done on the corpse in a later scene, but its face is obscured or blurred in a way that prevents you from really seeing the eyes
i can't remember a traditional anxiety attack at any point. stevie becomes very frantic when she's worried about her son if that's what people mean? but i feel like there's a difference between 'anxiety attack' and 'frantically warning people about danger'
When you start to see fog climbing up a lamppost, there are about to be flashing lights for a fair while. The lamppost wires spark off and shortly afterwards, some other pieces of electrical equipment are shown to be breaking down, by flashing bright mini-explosions, with sparks coming off them. If you're trying to avoid these, close your eyes/cover the screen when you see the fog climbing up the lamppost, and you can look again after you hear a woman giving a speech say something like "we can all proceed to the statue"
Elizabeth & Nick are very different ages. The male actor was twice Jamie Lee Curtis' age at the time of filming, but their on-screen age gap is never explicitly stated. Seems obvious though.
there's a weird stinger at the end so it doesn't exactly end on a happy note, but overall the ending is positive. the rest of the movie kind of implies that everything will be pretty much okay after the surprise death (the ghosts have met their quota of 6 now)
