The mother of a 3ish yo boy is abducted and presumed dead, but then she is found after 6 yrs. Whilst not her fault, the boy is obviously traumatised by the whole thing and confused by her return. But they rekindle their relationship ok after a while.

In Season 2 Episode 4 a dog is found at a crime scene. It's crying, laying down and has clearly been hurt. The mouth is all bloody, but it's insinuated that the blood belongs to the person who committed the crime and is not the dog's.
