Bad Education
Movie • 2004 • Crime
ReportTwo children, Ignacio and Enrique, know love, the movies and fear in a religious school at the beginning of the 1960s. Father Manolo, director of the school and its professor of literature, is witness to and part of these discoveries. The three are followed through the next few decades, their reunion marking life and death.

I think that in this case lying is being conflated with gaslighting. Gaslighting is when someone lies to someone else about their lived experience in order to convince them what happened to them isn't true. This doesn't necessarily happen in this film, though it is true that a character lies about their identity and there is a lot of stretching the truth, I personally don't think gaslighting as it traditionally is defined happens in this film.

In the third act of the film we meet the true identity of a character (who we initially believed was someone else) and it's revealed pretty early on that she is addicted to drugs. They're present around her house and there's a quick moment where we see her shooting up.

The sexual abuse of young boys by the hands of a Catholic priest is a main element of this film and about 26 minutes on it becomes incredibly prominent and pretty unavoidable. Nothing is seen on screen but about 28 minutes in you hear a young boy who is singing suddenly scream, "no!" and run away from the priest, insinuating that he was attempting physical assault but nothing is seen or heard outside of that one yell from the boy. After this, it's still a very important thing to the characters of the film so it's discussed a lot and ever-present in all of the flashbacks. There is another moment later in the film where it is confirmed the priest successfully abuses Iganacio, but again it cuts away and nothing is shown.

About 16 minutes in, a character takes another character to her hotel to have consensual sex. The man, Enrique, falls asleep during a blowjob and a few minutes later (at the 16 minute mark) - Zahara uses his still erect penis to have sex with him though he is unconscious. They were initially having consensual sex but him being unconscious absolutely makes it assault, in my opinion. There's also child sexual assault in this film, not on screen but discussed that is detailed elsewhere on this page.

At about 47:55 (around that area), Angel and Enrique are exiting a bar drunk and after Angel enters the passenger seat the camera pans back and you see a young woman on the sidewalk puking. No sound but visual. It's over incredibly quickly, right after the 48 minute mark so you can probably skip that chunk because nothing happens in that moment.

Frequently in the third act of the film a trans woman is almost exclusively referred to with he/him pronouns.

There's a few sex scenes and a scene where two men swim naked in a pool. You mostly just see butts at most every time.
