The Burning
Movie • 1981 • Horror
ReportA caretaker at a summer camp is burned when a prank goes tragically wrong. After several years of intensive treatment at hospital, he is released back into society, albeit missing some social skills. What follows is a bloody killing spree with the caretaker making his way back to his old stomping ground to confront one of the youths that accidently burned him.

There's a scene near the beginning that shows a skull with bugs and maggots (I think? Not sure) crawling all over it. Also they are in the woods and swat at flies that are visible some times but not often

Copied from the entry for sexual assault by other commenters, and I have verified this by watching myself:

The guys in this are so fucking disgusting. One on-screen assault. There's at least two instances of almost-assault downplayed by everyone. Tons of sexual harassment throughout, too. All painted in a neutral light. One of the guys ends up being the hero in the end, lol.
Also, it was written and produced by Harvey Weinstein. His name is plastered throughout the credits. It all made sense once I saw that.
KemmaWolf
Yes, omg I don't even know where to start.
A female character is spied on by another male character in the shower, she screams and he runs off and she cries and said he was looking at her and wouldn't leave.
Multiple kissing scenes where the male is aggressive or forceful and the girl says stop and pushes him away as he tries to take things farther and is ignored or the guy gets upset.
A female character makes a male promise not to try to make things too far and sexual. They kiss but he tries to make it more sexual, she gets upset, says no, and has to force him off of her and he gets angry and tells her to leave
A different pairing the male hounds the girl about when they will finally have sex. During the sex scene she tells him to stop and that it hurts but he says "he's gonna make it better" (paraphrased) and continues and finishes.

Yes the killer is in the hospital after being burned badly near the beginning and a nurse drags another doctor to look at him, essentially to view him like a freak show, emphasizing how "scary and gross" he looks from the full body burns

No, although it's suggested that Cropsy is insane in part from anger of how deformed he is.
That said, it's not an unreasonable emotional response, considering what he looks like...

A burn survivor is called a monster, freak, and has someone say they'd rather be dead than look like him.

It's not at all surprising that three Weinsteins worked on this thing. It's pushing the limit of objectification, even for an 80s slasher.

Sort of? Cropsy does live in the woods after being released from the hospital but he builds a small shack to live in. Though it's in a very rural area.
