In series 2 episode 4 "larceny of a kitty cat" In a flashback Earl is seen holding a cat, and is about to break it's leg to get it out of a competition until he thankfully decides not to (the cat is unharmed). There are other cases of animals not being treated properly meant for comedy, like Joy saying she put contacts in a cat's eyes to make it look pretty

In series 2 episode 5 "Van Hickey", a man is creepy around a woman and then grabs a woman's boobs without consent (off camera ) but we see her upset after. Also a man is told he has to have sex with a woman he doesn't find attractive, or he'll be killed. He tries to make himself super drunk to do it, but thankfully he doesn't have to do it in the end.

I series 1 episode 1, after they have divorced, Earl's ex wife tries to kill him in various ways for his money. This is played for comedy, the attempts are things like shooting at him with a crossbow while he's walking, she always misses so he doesn't come to any physical harm. She gives up after episode 2. Their relationship is not really portrayed as abusive outside of this, although she is meant to be a mean and selfish character.
