In series 2 episode 5 'Van Hickey', Earl's crazy friend tries to force him to sleep with a woman he's not attracted to, or he'll 'kill him'. (Thankfully he doesn't have to at the very last minute). None of the characters make jokes about it, more the show as it's a comedy show

In series 1 episode 1, the main character's ex wife tries to kill him for his money. It's played for comedy and he comes to no physical harm, but he also just shrugs it off and forgets about it, then in other episodes does nice things for her to make up for his past mistakes, without ever getting an apology from her.

I series 1 episode 1, after they have divorced, Earl's ex wife tries to kill him in various ways for his money. This is played for comedy, the attempts are things like shooting at him with a crossbow while he's walking, she always misses so he doesn't come to any physical harm. She gives up after episode 2. Their relationship is not really portrayed as abusive outside of this, although she is meant to be a mean and selfish character.
