Abuse includes (but is not limited to): pulling a horse's head back unnaturally high, whippings, carrying excessive loads, being forced to proceed in dangerous situations, and an improperly fitting horseshoe. You will see the negative effects of that abuse including blood, scars, emaciation, etc...

Although there's no vomit, a sick man coughs a lot. Twice in the movie people undergo a lifechanging illness. First time it's an unknown illness and the person has to move and leave everything behind. The second time are told it's due to people leaving their servant outside in the snow and that they were being abusive.
