Louder Than Bombs
Movie • 2015 • Drama
ReportThree years after his wife, acclaimed photographer Isabelle Reed, dies in a car crash, Gene keeps everyday life going with his shy teenage son, Conrad. A planned exhibition of Isabelle’s photographs prompts Gene's older son, Jonah, to return to the house he grew up in - and for the first time in a very long time, the father and the two brothers are living under the same roof.

A character describes a dream she had about being raped. We see the dream-rape in a very tightly edited sequence which shows little more than head movements.

Yeah, kinda. HIgh-school age Conrad has a crush on a fellow student, and the camera views her the way he does, at least sometimes.

One of Isabelle's featured photojournalism projects is the funeral of a boy. There's a prominent photo we see more than once, of the boy's body.

I see another viewer voted "yes"--so, there are a number of very significant lies (or lies of omission) that characters tell their various loved ones. I wouldn't say it counts as gaslighting because it lacks that element of deliberately causing someone to doubt their perception of reality.

While we don't technically see childbirth, we do see two parents with their brand new baby in the hospital room shortly after the birth. First scene in the movie, skippable (but the baby is seen again a few times).

Well, I'm not sure. The movie shifts fluidly between present, past (including memories of potentially dubious truth), dreams, and visions. It seems meant to be more melancholy and poetic than disturbing, but it can be somewhat disorienting.

There's a character whose mother dies of cancer early in the movie; we never actually meet the mom, though.

Most prominently in the first five or ten minutes of the movie, and then in a couple of other scenes throughout.

Kinda. Not like spooky ghosts. But there's at least one scene where a boy sees his dead mom. It might just be a dream though.

Jonah, an adult, is really quick to call his kid brother Conrad "weird" and similar things, and ask him if he's going to "shoot up the school." It's not directly ableist but it definitely seems intolerant of difference.
