We are told that Rufus died in the time since the last film (since his actor George Carlin died in real life). Rufus's daughter Kelly fills his shoes and the film lightly touches on her missing him. Also, Bill and Ted, who are parents, "die" and visit Hell but come back to life. Parental death isn't a major theme and it shouldn't be too upsetting.

The actor Brigette Lundy-Paine is non-binary; they play a character (Billie) who presents in a fairly androgynous way but is referred to with female pronouns by other characters. Billie never seems bothered by this, so within the context of the film I didn't see it as misgendering, but apparently some viewers disagree.
