First, the dog disappears for a bit, and they search for it. Then it reappears and is fine.
However at 49 minutes they see it dead from far away in the garage - then the camera approaches it and the owners (and we) see it full frame - close-up - before they flee.
Not sure exactly what it looked like, as we skipped a few seconds to avoid it - but it didn't look pleasant.

There is a blinding light outside that is almost reminiscent of an explosion (and the characters react to it almost like an explosion). But no actual explosion.
