Season 1 Ep 19 “Shark Derby” Multiple sharks carcasses are shown after being killed for a Biggest Catch competition. Those look pretty fake. There is very disturbing real stock footage that shows a shark getting speared and killed. The shark convulses in extreme pain prior to dying. Haunting footage that animal people should avoid at all costs. Happens during the climax of the episode when the evil divers go back in the water to retrieve their device. Just an awful episode with a cruel theme pushing the storyline. I would say skip the whole episode except for the final 5 minutes, because there is a major storyline twist that affects the series going forward.

The dreaded “Emmy cancer” shows up in a few scattered episode over the course of the series. The most notable being the character Stephanie having an Emmy cancer subplot in season six.

It is a show about life guards after all, sometimes they do succeed in rescuing people but there’s also a few where they don’t make it
