When rancher and single mother of two Maggie Gilkeson sees her teenage daughter, Lily, kidnapped by Apache rebels, she reluctantly accepts the help of her estranged father, Samuel, in tracking down the kidnappers. Along the way, the two must learn to reconcile the past and work together if they are going to have any hope of getting Lily back before she is taken over the border and forced to become a prostitute.
This movie contains 2 potentially triggering events.
A toddler aged child is left on the ground inside a cave, to die, a young teen girl tries to save the child.. Indians and low-life white men proceed to beat, kick, whip the teen girl as she tries to cover the baby with her own body.. we later seem them tied up - but okay.
All the dead bodies are painstakingly realistic, including dismembered body parts, and the camera lingers on them. It's a very hard movie to watch if you're sensitive to gore and blood. An extremely violent film.
This is a western directed by Ron Howard who is rabid about historical accuracy. As a result, many animals die in this movie. A young girl is seen gutting a hanging deer.
Quick, but disturbing scene of snakes being hanged, killed.
More graphic deer skinning..
At just 5 minutes into the movie we see two or three dead cows that have presumably been killed by two wolves off in the distance. A man tries to shoot the wolves, but his bullets find no flesh (thankfully).
