A medical student who becomes a zombie joins a Coroner's Office in order to gain access to the brains she must reluctantly eat so that she can maintain her humanity. But every brain she eats, she also inherits their memories and must now solve their deaths with help from the Medical examiner and a police detective.
This tv show contains 72 potentially triggering events.
A basset hound is featured in Season 2 belonging to a victim. The assailant does NOT kill/harm the dog, taking him in instead to care for him. However, some may find a scene distressful where the dog is later deliberately abandoned on a bus. Spoiler: It is later mentioned that the dog was found on the bus, so he's okay. Though it can still be distressing that the dog lost every human who cared for him because he was stolen (sort of) and then abandoned.
Angus forms a zombie power church, adopting mostly christian imagery and dress (as that’s the actual place of worship he took over to form his zombie church)
Spoiler warning. One of the main characters in Season 1 thinks he's going insane believing in zombies and checks himself into a mental institution. His best friend and ex-fiance are both "in the know" and gaslight him by not telling him he's not seeing things. They argue over telling him, and the ex-fiance (a zombie) wins the argument by saying she would rather he be "safe" in a mental institution than on the outside running into zombies.
Season 1, Ep 7 and 8: Test rat turns zombie, breaks out of its cage, and eats multiple other test rats. The deaths aren’t shown or heard on screen, just the gory aftermath visuals at the end of one episode and the beginning of the next one.
Season 2, Ep 13: Gory aftermath of zombie rats eating mother rat is shown; One of the zombie rat’s deceased corpse is shown. Since his/her name was New Hope, it might be unsettling to those with pet rats.
Roughly 12 minutes in to S1 E8 is the part with the rats. I would skip one minute. Also, S1 E12: Running time roughly 8 minutes in, the brown rat appears dead laying on its side (close up shot). There are no injuries. I would skip 30 seconds. S2 E13 Roughly 14:30 Zombie rats in cage. Sad gore is briefly shown. I would skip 30 seconds. Also, 36:30 another sad image of a rat. S2 E14 Roughly 9 minutes in, "undead" animated rat with zombie-like injuries. I would skip 30 seconds. S2 E15 Roughly 14:30. Skip one minute.
There is a scene where Liv pretends someone has a spider on them, but there isn't really one. When Liv is on prankster brain, a box of fake spiders falls on Clive in a shed.
Season 1 Episode 2, there's no actual assault but I think it's important to know that one of the characters had the intention of assaulting the main girl.
Spoilers(?): She beats his nose in and dips
in s2ep19 a major character amputates a guy's hand and puts it in his holster (hand remains there during ep)
and in another ep of s2, 3 men have their heads amputated
In S3 Episode 10, Liv eats the brain of a man who had hallucinations of his dead wife and she started seeing the "ghost" of one of her dead boyfriends. I don't know if it really counts but if that freaks you out anyways then you'd probably want to skip that episode
yes the beginning of the show (first few episodes but occasionally referenced back to as [spoilers] it’s the beginning of the zombie outbreak) is set a lot around a boat on a lake
S1 E1: Running time: 40:30 At a haunted house party, there is a scary looking clown. It's not the main focus of the scene and it is on screen only for a brief moment. There is most definitely a clown. Also, there is another person wearing a clown wig and another person wearing scary makeup resembling a clown.
You can definitely watch the show while skipping the following scenes. It looks like a lot but that’s mostly because of quick word mentions. (List is in progress)
S1E1: A character coughs up water from 2:09-2:14, the scene is shown again from 10:02-10:07, and a word mention from 10:49-10:52.
S1E4: Word mention from 4:11-4:15.
S1E6: A character appears nauseated and gags but does not v* from 3:20-5:05, word mention and obvious nausea from 9:07-9:22, and a character pretends to be sick plus a word mention from 14:38-14:50.
S1E7: Word mention from 13:51-13:56.
S1E8: Best to skip the episode if you can’t do word mentions. It has some key plot points so I recommend watching it if possible.
S1E9: Word mention from 23:49-23:59, a character recoils from a smell and covers his mouth from 30:07-30:15, a character gags but does not v* from 34:18-34:23, and a character gags but does not v* from 34:45-35:49.
S1E12: Word mention from 11:14-11:20.
S2E2: Word mention from 6:41-6:45, a character is seen passed out on a toilet from 22:20-22:26 and 22:35-22:52, and the same character is seen next to the toilet from 23:54-25:37.
Main characters include two medical examiners at a police morgue, as well as one detective. The police department is clearly shown as corrupt, and the show portrays police brutality in a negative light. However, the main characters still abuse their power (such as in shady interrogations) and it's usually shown as positive or neutral as long as it helps them solve the crime.
Bulimia is mentioned briefly in a single scene in Season 2, where Blaine is on the phone apologizing to his customer who ate a bulimic's brain. But no eating disorder actively shows up in the series that I've seen.
In Season 1, a police lieutenant deliberately blows up a building with himself inside of it, killing himself. There are murders made to appear to be suicides but ultimately proved not to be suicides. There is a suicidal zombie in Season 2 who attempts to end her life with a gun, but this doesn't happen when another character stops her in time. She does state several times that she wants to die, and ultimately she begs him to end her life if it turns out that a cure for zombie-ism is never found.
In the first five minutes of s4e11, the body of a man wearing a dress is brought into the morgue. A character says that he dressed up as one of his coworkers to make fun of her, as part of a skit. Characters make joking comments about his penis.
A character talks about having eaten the brain of a gay man in season 1. In season 5 episode 11 (spoilers), a gay man and a drag queen are both murdered.
S4 E5 A public execution using a guillotine-like device with an anvil that drops. The person being executed is black which can definitely be triggering.
Outside of hating on zombies, there are a couple of shady comments when Liv dines on the brain of a cantankerous, racist man. Basically, a disparaging comment about Asian drivers and a comment of "you're one of the GOOD ones" made to Clive, who is black.
From wikipedia: Brain tubes made from dementia patients are distributed throughout Seattle, affecting dozens including Major; a subsequent blockade of brain dispensaries triggers a violent response from FG personnel while he's recovering at home.
