I suppose this comes down to personal experiences and definitions, but the main character's "love-interest-but-she-doesn't-know-he's-her-love-interest-yet" never lays off her and constantly tries to make her "realize he's perfect for her". He manipulates another boy into not dating her, and as the main character is at home sleeping, he enters her room and sits down on her bed and touches her hair without her consent.

A line of dialogue from her best friend implies that she complains and grows depressed about it on a daily basis. Her low self-esteem affects her social interactions and the choices she makes, including how she dresses (avoiding high heels), her hobbies outside of school (she states that she has stopped playing the piano because she is very good at it and doesn't want another reason for people to look at her), and who she thinks she can date (she latches onto the first guy she meets who is taller than her).
