Prince Amleth is on the verge of becoming a man when his father is brutally murdered by his uncle, who kidnaps the boy's mother. Two decades later, Amleth is now a Viking who's on a mission to save his mother, kill his uncle and avenge his father.
This movie contains 55 potentially triggering events.
It happens just after the shot of the village’s religious leader preparing to make a human sacrifice (the woman is tied up and blindfolded behind her). The scene cuts to Fjolnir and Gudrún sitting by a fire; wolves around the village are howling and the dog is agitated and sits up. He attacks Fjolnir and Fjolnir kills him. It’s in the dark but you hear the dog yelp. The body is not shown. Just after this dog is killed there’s a shot of other dogs or wolves attacking villagers so there’s an implication these animals may have also been killed. It’s also later implied the first dog’s heart was cut out but it’s not shown.
To the person asking what the characters say - I don’t remember the exact dialogue but when the scene cuts to Fjolnir and Gudrún sitting by a fire the camera pans in on the dog, who sits up and looks agitated. Fjolnir and Gudrún say ‘Rakki?’ (the dog’s name). I think the scene either briefly cuts away again before cutting back to the dog attacking Fjolnir, or he attacks and then it cuts to something else and then back again. Either way I would cover your ears/eyes right when the camera starts to zoom in on the dog and keep them covered/closed for a minute or two
Throats are cut in battle and as executions. One character’s neck is slightly nicked by an execution not carried through. Swords and knives held to throats as threats.
At the beginning of the movie, Amleth's mother tries to strike him but is interrupted before she does so. Towards the second half of the movie, the mother reveals she harbours murderous intent towards her son.
Children multiple are burned alive ( we don’t see them dying) but we hear them screaming and banging a door to get out.
Child is injured during a rough sports game. Many men are bludgeoned, he also is killed later and see his body twice more with a decapitated horse.
The scene starts 1:45:25 with the youngest brother holding up a sword during the funeral of Thorir They sit horse down at 1:44:56. The scene at 1:45:25 when he swings the sword about 5 times, it is then they pan down to to corpse of the horse and take the blood. They put in a bowl for a ritual where the spray the blood of the dead horse on the father and the son. This whole thing is over at 1:46:16. So basically don’t look starting 1:44:56 through 1:46:16.
Someone is strangled with a cord in the background (but clearly visible) as part of a sacrifice; and someone’s throat is held aggressively during a violent conversation
No squashed heads but there are decapitations and someone is stabbed with a sword through their face. Another man is punched repeatedly in the face while he’s on the ground; there is a shot of his face halfway through the beating and it is bloody but not squashed. The beating continues and you can hear the bones breaking but there is no shot of his crushed face.
Two very quick scenes, both with visual but very faint (if any) sound. The first is about halfway through -- it's a wide shot of two drunk men coming out of a pub, so it's from far away and not too graphic. The next is not too long after that, when [SPOILERS] Amleth and Olga drug the viking village with mushrooms and the whole town trips out. Similarly to that first scene, it's a wide shot with very minimal sound, but this one is slightly more graphic as the man is sick twice (though it's in the background and not the main focus of the scene).
There's a scene about 15 minutes into the movie wherein a man burps directly into another's face, and a boy loudly farts, as part of a spiritual ceremony. I believe there are also some instances of people spitting out blood.
In the opening scene, and again at the end of the movie, a lightning storm is seen in the distance over an active volcano. The lightning doesn't flash across the whole screen, but there are still small flickers.
No LGBTQ+ people die. There are two LGBTQ+ background characters in the movie, as there is a ~10 second shot of an erotic dance ceremony in which two women are partnered up and being, well, erotic with each other; both of these women survive.
As part of a ritual, Amleth is told that his tears will be the last he sheds, and that he should instead be strong, but not in a cruel or demeaning way
