None directly but the first two episodes of the last season were inspired by 9/11. Every element of the two-part special was designed to comfort the viewers. The story starts with a tree falling into a library. Again, nothing is meant to be a one-to-one depiction, it’s about coming together as a community after something scary happens. There was also a plot point where it is discovered that there were small animals living in the tree, and while the animals are alive, they are now displaced and I think some of them might have been injured but I can’t remember as it’s been a while since I’ve watched this one. All of the problems resulting from the tree falling into the library are solved by the end of the second episode of the special.

The episode where Doc Hog makes a house call has a plot point where Ojo needs a vaccine. She is afraid because she knows it will hurt. Bear comforts her with the “Just Say ‘Ow’” song, which is helpful to her when she gets the vaccine. This will help you overcome your fear of needles, and I sing the song to myself at the doctor when I need a shot or other painful procedure, and it helps me feel better.

There are no officially autistic characters in the show but I and many other autistic people love the show well into adulthood for many reasons including the soothing atmosphere, explanation and exploration of topics that are relevant to us (and of course to other people but, like, it’s especially important for us; things like that it’s okay to be different, tips on making friends, understanding your own emotions and those of others, compromising when a disagreement occurs, etc.), and of course the wonderful music and beautiful colors. Characters with traits like autistic traits are treated well (for example, Treelo sometimes makes sounds that are basically vocal stims and it’s recognized as being part of who he is and excited, happy noises are celebrated and whimpering, sad sounds are responded to with comforting gestures; Tutter is a little mouse who has a lot of big feelings and Bear respects his wishes and listens to Tutter whether he’s going on about all his favorite cheeses or way overthinking whether or not to wear a red hat; etc.).

Treelo in particular makes many sudden, loud noises because he’s a lemur and also very young and very excitable. However, if you can handle being around a toddler you can handle Treelo and his sounds. Aside from the occasional shouts of other characters (usually joyful), there aren’t many other sudden, loud noises. For most people, even with these, this is a very comfortable show. I’m autistic and startle relatively easily but I was able to enjoy the show even when I was tiny, and I was the kid that couldn’t nap if a dog barked a block away.
