Law & Order is an American police procedural and legal drama television series, created by Dick Wolf and part of the Law & Order franchise. It originally aired on NBC and, in syndication, on various cable networks. Law & Order premiered on September 13, 1990, and completed its 20th and final season on May 24, 2010. At the time of its cancellation, Law & Order was the longest-running crime drama on American primetime television. After The Simpsons, both Law & Order and Gunsmoke tied for the second longest-running scripted American primetime series with ongoing characters.
All off screen, but occasionally there is discussion of alcohol abuse. Captain Cragen is a recovering alcoholic in his backstory but it is only mentioned occasionally, mostly to gain sympathy for the addict.
The detectives investigate the death of a horse. There is a brief glimpse of the corpse at the beginning but they also spend the rest of the episode discussing it so it's pretty sad.
Special Victims Unit, given how it's all about sexual offenses, will sometimes show a victim being raped onscreen, even if the rape itself is obscured, you still see the victims' reaction
A man is found screaming that "she killed me". When detectives investigate, he's lying there saying, "She cut it off, she cut it off..." There's blood around that area but he's clothed or there's a sheet on him or something. A few jokes about it in the next scene.
The flaws of police are definitely discussed; officers are jerks and Logan brutalizes people a few times, which is certainly frowned upon and there are usually consequences. I wouldn't say this show is copaganda.
A young girl and her mother are stalked. The stalker takes videos of the girl at different occasions when she momentarily wandered away from her mother and sent the videos to the mother, saying it would be so easy for him to kidnap the girl. This definitely disturbed me.
Most of the time when gay characters are featured they get murdered. The Reaper's Helper (S1 E3) Manhood (S3 E21), Mayhem (S4 E17)...it happens again and again. Bury your gays trope very apparent.
Quite a lot. Victims often die of gunshot wounds and at least two major characters are shot. Officers don't fire their guns that often, but still lots of gunshots.
