This Karate Kid sequel series picks up 30 years after the events of the 1984 All Valley Karate Tournament and finds Johnny Lawrence on the hunt for redemption by reopening the infamous Cobra Kai karate dojo. This reignites his old rivalry with the successful Daniel LaRusso, who has been working to maintain the balance in his life without mentor Mr. Miyagi.
A plot line throughout the seasons is that one of the main protagonists was in the military and went through extremely harsh private training, including borderline verbal abuse, with his officer at war, who (SPOILERS!) he later fights and kills. We see this happen through flashbacks. Later this character opens a karate studio and teaches his students in a similar harsh way, using verbal and some physical abuse as tactics.
Yes. Johny is constantly gaslighted and manipulated by different characters, both when he is younger and older. Its a main thing of the series to see how this affected Johny and his relationships.
A child is shown to have extremely negligent parents. In season 3 episode 10 an otherwise negligent father physically harms his son—it’s mostly accidental but may be upsetting to some viewers.
If you are familiar with Koi fish, then seeing the “training” sequences where students are attempting to grasp them out of their pond is a little disturbing. More frustrating is that the scene comes from the Miyagi-do side, which just doesn’t feel right for what we know about Miyagi’s character for over three decades.
A young girls landlord, an adult man, implies that he won’t make her pay rent in exchange for sleeping with him, he also touches her face. She denies him, and later her karate teacher threatens the man and tells him to leave the girl alone, presumably he does.
Kicking boys in the groin 1 right after another and using it as comedy is literally jokes about sexual assault in boys/men. Stopped watching the show after this scene.
There are many instances in which someone’s hands are bloodied and damaged throughout the show. The two people that first come to mind are Hawk and Tory.
In the finale of Season 5, one of Silvers villains loses a pinky. This happens when Johnny is fighting in the sword room. There is blood spurting and a little bone, but it is relatively short and cartoonish.
Not really excessive, but some fights can be gory. At the end of season five, a man’s finger is cut off with a sword and we actually see it, sliced and bleeding, for a couple seconds.
in season 3 there’s vietnam war flashbacks where very young people, 18 or older, are killed. Also SPOILER, Kresses girlfriend Betsy dies when she’s 17 or 18.
(SPOILER-ISH)
Not quite a shower scene, but Samantha and Robby train in a Koi Pond in which they both fall a couple of times. Its not really sexual or anything like that, but they are shown to have romantic feelings for eachother down the line.
SEASON 6 IS SAFE!!
I decided to just take one for the team and watch the new season. Overall no one vomits so it is safe. I saw someone mention that they were worried that Kenny would throw up in episode 4 but nothing happens. He just took laxatives and runs to the bathroom. Enjoy watching!
We don't actually see the poop, but someone poops their pants on screen. When you see someone desperately trying to get into the porta potty, it's about to happen.
******MAJOR SPOILERS for COBRA KAI 2x10**********
Miguel is hospitalized after Robby pushes him off a balcony. Also in the Season 3 teaser Miguel is in hospital still
In the new season (3) Johnny bangs his head into the wall so he can get into the ICU to see Miguel. It’s not incredibly graphic but could be triggering to some.
There's a few scenes in season three where one of the kids with PTSD is shown to be having issues breathing and is obviously having a panic / anixety attack
a student says they may be on the spectrum after being asked “what’s wrong with you” and their sensei says “i don’t know what that is but you better get off it”
Johnny Lawrence makes a comment “Gender what now?” it’s implied someone on the phone signing their kid up for karate said their kid is gender neutral/non-binary
Nothing consensual or ongoing, but in season 3 a teenage girl who is still a minor is sexually harassed by her landlord who is a middle aged man. The narrative definitely doesn't condone it though and the landlord ends up getting beat up for being a creep.
