I May Destroy You

TV Show • 2020

Report
Following triumph from a piece of writing that garnered internet acclaim, Arabella Essiuedu – easily distracted, non-committal and carefree – finds herself feted as the ‘voice of her generation,’ with an agent, a book commission and a helluva lot of pressure. After being sexually assaulted in a nightclub, her life changes irreversibly and Arabella is forced to reassess everything: her career, her friends, even her family. As Arabella struggles to come to terms with what has happened, she begins a journey of self-discovery.

A character says that she lied that her dad sexually abused her at age 7 at her mother's request. So technically no, but it's a very present topic in the show.

Rape, sexual assault, and consent are themes present throughout, though the sexual violence is between strangers or hookup partners so none of it is really domestic violence per se

Very graphic on-screen rape at the end of episode 4. It is an important plotpoint though, so I suggest skipping this end part and watching/reading a censored recap of the episode.

In episode 2, during Arabella's police interview, she breaks down and cries; it closely resembles an anxiety attack but isn't actually one.

Some scenes are filmed fisheye style, as if through the eyes of a character. The view jolts around quite aggressively so might be considered as shakey cam? (Happens during flashbacks or drug-taking scenes across multiple episodes)
