The above comment is absolutely incorrect. NO, no pet dog or any dog was killed for the movie. And it’s insulting and ignorant to assume that because “it was made in the in the 80s”, dogswhi played a character’s pet just got killed. It’s not even shown, you just see a dog laying there. They used a method called “practical makeup effects” or a dog trained to play dead. Why would they just go kill a real dog to show a dead dog on camera?! I grew up in the 80s, that was not something they just did. Or before that.
I’m trying to think if I’ve ever seen a movie during any time period where if a dead dog is shown, it’s because they took a real dog and killed it for the movie. I see more movies than most people but I have never even heard of a story resembling that. . 🙄
In the very first OG Friday the 13th movie, a real snake got killed with a machete. Belonged to a trainer and was his pet snake. It’s horrible and they regretted it. That is a very rare case, though, and it’s not a pet dog a character has. That was due to having a very low budget, though they could have used a fake snake.
