Happy Halloween, Scooby-Doo!
Movie • 2020
ReportWith fake monsters and candy galore, Halloween is heaven for these hungry foodies going door-to-door. But this year, their sweet holiday turns sour when the neighborhood pumpkin patch is infected by toxic ooze, creating high-flying jack-o-lanterns, and a king-sized pumpkin leader squashing everything in its path. It’s up to Scooby-Doo and the gang as they team up with their pals, Bill Nye the Science Guy and Elvira, Mistress of the Dark, to solve this mystery of gigantic proportions and save Crystal Cove!

No animals are harmed in the film, the closest is that an owl gets accidentally stuck to Shaggy, but they’re able to get it off of him and set it free.

At the very end, just skip Elvira’s scene and go to the credits in this case

SEVERAL pumpkins do get smashed over the course of the movie, and while we’re initially led to believe that they’re people transformed into Jackal Lanterns , they’re revealed to be robots at the end

Jonathan Crane/the Scarecrow calls himself “mad” in one scene and the line is meant to be a joke. The same scene also described him as a “crazed fan” of Elvira

Even Elvira is pretty tame in this. And honestly despite jokes from the fandom, it’s not clear if Crane’s fandom for Elvira is platonic or a crush

Bit of a side effect of Scarecrow/Jonathan Crane being from the Batman franchise which is infamous for this trope. If it’s any solace most of his crimes in this movie don’t cause anybody to get killed it’s more “mayhem” ,but it still qualifies

This movie came out a year before Cassandra Peterson (aka Elvira) came out as queer ,but even there’s no LGBTQ+ characters confirmed in the film itself (possibly Velma although this was pre-Trick Or Treat Scooby Doo). But even so, neither parties mentioned under this interpretation die on-screen because kids movie

Technically. It’s later revealed Jonathan Crane, aka the Scarecrow, travelled a long distance in order to watch Elvira in a Halloween parade due to being a “crazed fan” which could be seen as such

The character Mike is in a constant state of panic (especially concerning the safety of his daughter Michelle) due to the circumstances he’s in through the film. And it’s played for laughs on top of that. Edit: forgot about a scene very early on with Shaggy and Scooby Doo describing the fact it’s been the first time in a while that they’re not experiencing panic attacks

There is a car in the Halloween parade shaped up to look like a clown and briefly a character with clown-like makeup. The latter only lasts a couple seconds, but the car is a major factor on the movie’s second half

Velma jumps into a giant pumpkin’s mouth but it’s a non-lethal version as it’s key to proving that it’s fake

This is one of “the supernatural ISN’T real” ones, Scooby Doo is kind of weirdly inconsistent with that sometimes

I mean Scooby Doo as a whole is about debunking the supernatural (even if they’re a bit inconsistent sometimes)

Well…okay it’s complicated, but the sherif is the bad guy, but it’s actually somebody impersonating a sherif which REALLY muddies the message. To be fair though the actual police are portrayed as pretty incompetent
