Kaguya-sama: Love is War

TV Show • 2019 • Animation

Report
Considered a genius due to having the highest grades in the country, Miyuki Shirogane leads the prestigious Shuchiin Academy's student council as its president, working alongside the beautiful and wealthy vice president Kaguya Shinomiya. The two are often regarded as the perfect couple by students despite them not being in any sort of romantic relationship. However, the truth is that after spending so much time together, the two have developed feelings for one another; unfortunately, neither is willing to confess, as doing so would be a sign of weakness. With their pride as elite students on the line, Miyuki and Kaguya embark on a quest to do whatever is necessary to get a confession out of the other. Through their daily antics, the battle of love begins!

there is not! there's a joke in the series that doesn't translate well, in which a highschool student is talking to the principal, and word bubbles with a picture of sparkles and a kiss, followed by the words "GO to the gym," are shown, and he runs over there. some people misunderstood this as her saying that she'll kiss him in the gym, but thats not the case! the japanese onomatopoeia for sparkle and kiss are "pika" and "chu" and the GO is emphasized. the principal is playing pokemon go and shes telling him there's a pikachu in the gym.

kind of a hard question because the one example i can think of is just a young character who is still currently being neglected and has not really ben able to admit it to herself because she idolizes her parents.

several diverse cases of (often intense) parental abuse and/or neglect throughout the show as a pretty central theme. it is presented in a rather heartbreaking manner so if you’re sensitive to this kind of thing i might suggest skipping this show.

No, no one is stalked, but it's important to note that the topic of stalking does come up due to a false rumor that one character stalked his classmate when they were in middle school. The actual context isn't this, but that's not revealed until an episode after we learn the rumor.

not often or explicitly shown but a main characters dad i would say is *almost* implied to be a minor alchoholic or in the earlier stages of alcoholism and it’s nothing major but if you’re particularly sensitive to that kind of thing think about if that is something that would be good for you to watch

One of the characters is afraid of bugs and while debating whether to go on a trip to the mountains or to the beach, he pictures all the bugs on the mountain. Also in the special ending song at the end of the third episode, a character does a song and dance and at the end picks up a bug and lets it out the window. Also in the manga there's a more explicit chapter about the first character's fear of bugs where one is actually present.

not an explicit attempt, but in the manga ishigami's suicidal thoughts culminate in him thinking he doesnt care dies, and then stumbling down the stairs. the implication was that he made no effort to save himself from getting seriously hurt in the moment, but he's luckily saved and gets out of the brainfog.

for awhile, whenever something scary happens, ishigami says he wants to go home to die/write his will/etc, i think in the manga it’s elaborated upon to be more serious

no but there’s occasional disordered eating talk in casual conversation (diets, not eating to not gain weight, etc.) but a bit less than the average anime of this genre

There's a running gag where Ishigami says "I want to die, so I'm going home", it's played off as just him being dramatic but later on it's revealed to be more serious (With actual suicidal ideation for a bit in the manga). There's also a very quick flashing shot in an episode where you can see him with a noose, but it's very blink-and-you'll-miss-it

There is never any mention of PTSD and from what i can remember no character ever has a PTSD flashback on screen. HOWEVER, there is a large reoccurring theme of Trauma (especially family trauma) and as someone with both of these disorders, shinomiya and hayasaka are classic cases of CPTSD and (less differentiated)DID. (some call that OSDD but in my opinion since those are just “milder DID” and “more severe DID” and have largely the same presentation and cause I don’t see a need for a separate “Otherwise Specified Dissociative Disorder” anyway i’ve gotten off track) but basically this show is perhaps the best representation of those two disorders i’ve maybe ever seen. It definitely hit too close to home at times but it never triggered me at all. sorry for the ramble but i hope this helps

this is in the OVA (it is also sometimes listed as s2 ep 13) which is VERY heavy on fan service for the first half (it is very satirized in a way that for made it less uncomfortable than most anime fan service) and this OVA is skippable because there is nothing you would really miss story wise by not watching it. Also, this anime does have some moments of pretty mild and rare-ish fan service compared to most anime of this genre but i do not feel it was enough to make me uncomfortable (i usually am with fan service) especially due to the fact that the female characters are well rounded and i would say this show definitely does a better job with their female characters and has less general misogyny than most anime i’ve seen of this genre
