The characters cannot consume salt water and are seen spraying it from their robotic arms a few times. Near the beginning, a character sprays miso soup from his arm which looks like vomit.
A character's head is repeatedly beaten with a metal beam, exposing his robotic parts but his head remains intact and he is able to put it back together minutes later.
No, but bullies make a joke about two male characters being in a relationship to make them uncomfortable. This counts as homophobia but I do not believe a slur is used (maybe someone who speaks Japanese could clarify). There was no slur used in the English subtitles I watched.
There is a very bright light at the beginning of the film, explosions and flashing lights from jet packs, not sure if these count but I'm saying "yes" just in case.
A main character's mother commits suicide (this is revealed directly after she is interviewed for TV) but it is not shown on screen, we find out through a news report. A family is killed in their home very early on into the film, this scene is graphic. Another character's parents died from an unnamed illness before the events of the film began and her grandmother (could be considered a parental figure) is shot and killed shortly after.
Two main characters undergo a transformation which gives them robotic parts. They have to come to terms with their new bodies over the course of the film. One character is definitely shocked by this experience and is embarrassed when people find out.
A few scenes take place in a hospital. These scenes are generally positive, people are being healed. There are no medical procedures scene, just people in hospital beds.
A main character's mother is suffering from pancreatic cancer which spreads to her lungs and is fatal. Another main character suffers from an unnamed fatal illness and is given 3 months left to live.
