someone says “disassociate” while referring to dissociation. They are not the same thing. DisASSociate is to stop associating with someone or something. To Dissociate is to zone out in a heavy, disordered way where you become detached from reality, identity, feelings, thoughts and/or your body. Everyone dissociates to some degree, aka zoning out, but it becomes a disorder when it impacts your ability to live life.
