People run after him to try and stop him, but fail. The landing is nit shown but it is quite dramatic and sad.

No, not the r-slur as far as I know, but a lot of other derogatory terms for mentally ill people.
Most of the time, the term „looney“ is used. But within the series, the word becomes sonething the patients call themselves in a non-degrading way. Campbells „We are looneys and we are proud“ becomes an empowering statement for them.
