Sort of, throughout the entire series the main characters are being watched and (SPOILER)
In Episode 10 or 11 a character is killed after one of the villains leaves a 'Cursed Object' in their home.
While it is not graphically shown on screen, one of the clans is known for abuse of family members that do not fit the standards. The abuse is one of the major plot points for why many things happen in the series. While season two is all that is out at this time, this will become more of an element as more episodes are released.
There is a character who is a talking full-sized panda trained in jujitsu. He was raised at the school and trained to be a sorcerer. He and other characters state many times that "Panda is not a Panda". Very similar to Tokoyami in MHA in case that's helpful :)
The show is animated, so no actual animal is literally hurt, but a few fictional animals are harmed. One character sees through crows in a sort of telepathy link, season 2 has several crows killed. Another character uses summoned animals to fight for him, a dog and numerous bunnies are hurt/killed.
Dead crows and the severed head of a summoned dog are clearly displayed as central images. One fight in season 2 has tons of summoned spirit bunnies fighting and many seem to die. Season 2 is more violent/gory than season 1, but it’s usually humans being hurt/killed, not animals. One villain in particular (Mahito) has extremely grotesque abilities, the animal deaths are comparatively tame (less violent, less bloody, less torturous, faster)
There is a character that looks like a Panda that displays a range of emotions. Sadness is one, but so are anger and joy. He is generally a happy character
There are a multitude of bug-shaped monsters early on and just straight up actual bugs later on in the series. There are villains who fight using bugs and/or are bugs as well.
Skip Time: Season1 Episode 4 from about 8:45 to 17:20. What you miss during this time is Itadoi telling Megumi to go and help Nobara, get themselves to safety, and send a signal once they are safe and he will change into Sukuna to get rid of the special grade curse. While waiting Itadori doesn't know if he will make it and begins to regret things saying he wants a proper death then we hear the signal. He changes to Sukuna and Sukuna stops to think how he can create trouble for Itadori. He convinces the curse to come with him to attack Megumi, the curse double-crosses him by trying to attack him.
A character repeatedly has his throat damaged by his power and chokes on blood that tends to spray out, as he clutches his throat. There is no external damage, but he is clearly suffering.
Montage scene of a character killing a large crowd of people with heads flying off, the character is seen holding some of the decapitated deformed heads afterwards
A character has the power to grotesquely deform people, and does this to three people’s heads. The act itself is very briefly shown, and the aftermath is shown a few times.
Nobara is affected by Mahito's ability, and just after telling Yuji her life wasn't all bad, her left eye explodes out of its socket. The POV is from behind her, and the eyeball is seen flying out of her head and onto the ground. The next episode shows a detailed look at an unconscious Nobara with her eye socket visible, and there is a POV shot inside her eye socket looking at Yuji in shock.
I'm very sensitive to gore and this show doesn't bother me much with it. It mostly happens to the Curses and usually, you can sense this before they happen and will know to look away. There are very few character deaths any even fewer than half would be a 'good guy' type character.
Out of the top of my head- One of the main characters' grandfather dies. He dies peacefully. The aftermath and when It happens are both shown.
In another instance, the mother of a minor character dies, brutally. The aftermath and cause are both shown.
There are no depictions of people in a prison system, but there are three instances by the end of season three of people being imprisoned by other methods. They are put in a cell, chained, or otherwise confined as prisoners.
Season two spoiler without names: A major character dies at the end of season two. Right before he dies, he disassociates for a time. It flashes between the reality and the dissociative thoughts happening, which for me, made the whole thing even more heartbreaking.
I’ve seen some argue that Yuji/Sukuna is bad DID rep, but they are two completely different people being forced to share a body because Yuji ate a finger.
SPOILERS****
Yuji has a panic attack after he transforms back into himself after sukuna fighting mahoraga and witnessing shibuya destroyed and people dead
If I remember correctly, Yuji threatens it against Sukuna at some point during a fight. The main plot of the series is also about Yuji eating all of Sukuna's fingers so that he can be killed
some of the after credits scenes include characters directly addressing the 'camera', though not explicitly acknowledging the viewer as audience to their story
s1e24 min05:09-05.32: it is narrated (without being shown) that a woman was forced to have abortions. images of the fetuses which are monster-like are shown.
The whole series is about "curses", which are manifestations of hate, fear, etc. from humans that become monster like entities. They are similar to or could be read as demons.
(manga spoilers as of jan 2022, no s2 out yet) in the manga during the Shibuya arc, Mei Mei and her brother are characters that occasionally appear. the brother acts in a way that is uncomfortable, as the kind of admiration he has for his sister seems off. in chapter 133, the two characters are shown in bed together and there is an implication that something happened. they are not major characters and don’t appear often at all, however the author does not condemn this kind of relationship he wrote.
There is a mention of a man fearing that another man might yell at him for messing up and that he might cry, and he is very nervous about it; but it is just a thing of not wanting to cry at work in front of someone he looks up to. The character he is referring to would never look down on anyone for crying.
yes, a plane comes falling out of the sky on fire as a result of the main fight happening on the ground. we do not see inside the plane, but it bursts into a fireball as it falls.
In Volume 0/The Jujutsu Kaisen movie, a little girl is killed by being hit by a car, I haven't seen the movie but it's shown sort of graphically in the manga. There is also mention later on of a drunk driver killing a child in a hit and run, not sure if these are the same hit and run or not, but they're mentioned in different instances.
