(SPOILERS!!!!) beetlejuice does lie a LOT to the maitlands and lydia, burning the maitlands’ handbook for the recently deceased to trick them into thinking he was their only help, and attempting to forcefully get lydia to marry him by tricking her into exercising the maitlands and only saving them when she’d marry him

Beetlejuice (attempts to and does) grope and forcefully kiss multiple characters throughout the show. Beetlejuice is often called a “pervert.”

In Creepy Old Guy during the second act, catcalling is implied with a wolf-whistle from a female character. A character sings about how creepy old men made them feel ”used and kinda confused” by staring at them on the street when they were 10.

A character appears in the underworld wearing a charred and still glowing outfit and says “never smoke cigars in bed.” It implies he indeed did burn alive.

A character puts on a puppet show with a book and proceeds to burn the book as the “book” screams and pleads.

There is a severed head (that pops out of a box) during The Fright of Our Lives in the first act.

A character has both his (fake) arms ripped off at once during That Beautiful Sound in the second act. The character proceeds to dance around with no arms for the remainder of the scene.

There is a severed leg (that we do not see being severed, but we know which character it was severed from) in the second act towards the end of the show.

In the comedic song "Creepy Old Guy," teenaged Lydia sings that she actually enjoys being objectified by creepy old guys in order to trick Beetlejuice into following through on his scheme to marry her (not romantically/sexually motivated, "it's a green card thing!"). The show makes clear that she is lying in the song, and that sexualizing and/or marrying minors is not OK.

Two demons are killed at different points, non-permanently. (Spoilers) One of them who starts out as a ghost is brought to the world of the living by human characters so they can kill him so they can send him to the afterlife. It is shown clearly that after his death, he stays around regardless, which can be assumed to be true of the other character too

A scary severed head pops out of a box during Fright of Their Lives in the first act.

Beetlejuice quickly pops up from an elevator in the orchestra pit during the end of the first act.

A very large Beetlejuice head prop and hands props come onstage. It is not insanely rapid, but absolutely unexpected. This is during the same scene as the elevator one. This can be frightening for audiences in the middle orchestra.

A large sandworm puppet is brought onto stage multiple times throughout the show. It is not rapid, but can be startling.

Characters abruptly yell sometimes.

*kind of,* lydia is very obviously mentally ill and traumatised by her mother’s death, so she’s shown acting irrationally (haunting a house with beetlejuice, endangering herself and the others by going into the netherworld to find her mom, etc)

Beetlejuice jokes with the audience multiple times. He speaks to the audience directly often, and will make a few jokes and point to an audience member (sat in stage-right-side front orchestra) and say “this guy knows what I’m talking about.”

Beetlejuice will also go stage right and ask if there are any kids in the audience (which was me, a very short 20yr old, one night) and proceed to give them a horrible puppet show.

Worth noting that in many versions of the show, Beetlejuice hits on Adam. It's kinda sorta played for laughs. If I recall correctly, Alex Brightman or someone else described Beetlejuice as pansexual.

Beetlejuice is canonically pansexual. He's a ghost when the play begins, and then he is brought back to life and killed again. He sticks around for the whole story, though, so it's not Bury Your Gays.

Like in the movie, Beetlejuice (an adult) attempts to marry Lydia (a minor), but here he specifically mentions that he has no sexual or romantic interest in her and treats the wedding as a green card scam. He does point out how upsetting the age gap is, and Lydia pretends to go along with the wedding at one point, but there is no interest on either side.

Implied. Beetlejuice recounts a time when his mother scolded him for having purple hair, which is a visual indicator that he is sad/depressed. He is not actively shamed for crying, but he is shamed for being emotionally vulnerable.

(SPOILERS) bittersweet, lydia marries beetlejuice so she can kill him again after saving adam and barbara, and when juno comes to take lydia back to the netherworld, beetlejuice comes back to save her, and he hugs everyone and has to say goodbye, and lydia never gets her mother back like she intended. it’s not sad per say, but if you’re rooting for beetlejuice to stay or for lydia to get her mom back, you may be sad at the circumstances

There is a fake severed head with a scary face that pops out from a box with a red neck stump during the first act song “Fright of Their Lives.” It is played with for a moment and quickly disposed of.

There are fake arms that are ripped off that (might) feature red sockets during the second act song “That Beautiful Sound.” The arms are taken away, but the armless character continues to dance around.

There is a severed leg with a bloody stump at the end of the show. It stays around for a couple minutes before being disposed of.

No, but a silent character carries a very large hunting gun prop in the second act song “What I Know Now.”
