A lot of the show is about Violet recovering from being a child soldier.

The main character loses her arms graphically in the war, and has metal prosthetic arms.

You could argue Gilbert is a parental figure for the main character, and most of the show is about her finding out about and coping with his death in the war.

One of the first scenes we see Violet resting in a hospital wing after being injured in the war.

Violet and the major get together in Violet Evergarden: The Movie and in the light novels despite the age gap and clear familial relationship between them. Idk why people said yes to the rape and no to this when this is present in both. However the main anime does not feature this relationship. While some people may find the words used by Violet towards the major suspect, it's easily explained as being familial in combination with Violet having problems expressing her emotions. There is a relationship with an equally bad age gap in the anime as well, but it's not incestual

Way more blood than in the first episode later on. We see limbs getting shot off, some eyetrauma and many people dying

Gilbert is shot in the head and one of Violet’s arms is shot off her body. There’s a ton of other scenes of guns being used during warfare.
