In a way. The movie revolves around a girl and her mother trying to stop illegal overfishing, so the overfishing (which you do see on-screen) could count as animal abuse as it is destroying the ecosystem.

It's hard to say, really. The film does end just after Dora's funeral, which is sad, but after that we hear about the marine reserve she established while she was alive and all the amazing things that have happened because of it, and the very last scene of the film is really happy.

This is quite central to the plot of the movie. Dora has a stroke which means that Abby has to go back home to take care of her. Throughout the film we see how Dora's behaviour and memory have been affected by the stroke (quite severely) and it's portrayed in a sad light - Abby tries to show her good memories but Dora doesn't react right until the very last part of the film.
