There are guard dog enemies in the Academy of Evil hub world and in the level Classroom Chaos. The player can kill them, though the death animation is brief and cartoony.
It is implied that Madame Amberley mistreated Cortex when he was a child. Cortex is also neglectful and controlling of the Evil Twins, who are children, despite being non-human. It is also stated in the manual that Cortex cut off the hands of his niece, Nina, and replaced them with cybernetic prosthetics, however this is merely implied in game and Cortex otherwise treats Nina well. At the beginning of the game, Cortex uses his stun gun to paralyze Coco, who is a child.
Yes, but not intentionally. A character accidentally teleports his pets to another dimension - they aren't bothered by it and don't bother trying to look for them.
Victor and Moritz, two child parrots, were accidentally sent to another dimension by their owner, Cortex, who then did nothing to try to get them back, being only 8 years old at the time. The two of them do consider Cortex to be their father, but it's unclear if the feeling is mutual, with Cortex entirely forgetting that they exist.
Nina Cortex has prosthetic hands. It is mentioned in the manual that her uncle, Cortex, amputated them, however this is only implied in the game itself. No amputation is actually shown.
Cortex's gameplay revolves around the use of a sci-fi ray gun to defeat enemies and destroy objects, which fires lasers rather than bullets. Pinstripe Potoroo is briefly seen holding a tommy gun at the beginning of the first boss, but it is never fired. In the final boss, there is a mech that has a gun arm which fires bullets at the player.
See "is there child abuse": Cortex was treated poorly by Madame Amberly and grew up to be abusive towards animals, and it's implied he cut off his niece's hands.
Cortex is shown forcing his pet parrots to stay in a tiny cage when he was a child. Cortex gets stuck inside a pipe in the level Boiler Room Doom. Nina is also tied up by Evil Crash at the end of Rock-Slide Rumble, but is rescued shortly after.
Cortex is mocked by his former teacher, Madame Amberley, who calls him "Crybaby Cortex". She is portrayed as evil and Cortex defeats her shortly after.
In the level Boiler Room Doom, Cortex gets stuck inside a piece of metal pipe and is rolled around by Crash. It isn't particularly intense and the camera always remains outside the pipe, however Cortex can be occasionally seen squirming to try and free himself.
Cortex occasionally references the game's troubled development or other games in the series. At one point he looks at the camera and seemingly addresses the player, saying that this isn't a game. Some of Crash's idle animations have him turn to look at the camera.
Coco is paralysed on two separate occasions - whether she is conscious during this is unclear. Several death animations could be interpreted as the player character being knocked unconscious.
While no one is hit by a driving vehicle, there is a segment where Nina must run away from a bus being dangled on a rope from Cortex's airship, which is floating around on the loose by itself. It is possible to die from the bus colliding with Nina.
Many minor enemies are animals, such as skunks, monkeys, penguins and others. The player may kill them in gameplay, though death animations are brief and cartoony.
There is a scene showing the main villain as a child conducting an experiment on animal test subjects - this only shows the subjects being zapped by a beam and disappearing without a trace.
In the N. Sanity Island hub world and in the levels Jungle Bungle and Totem Hokum, there are large green worms that the player can bounce on to reach to higher areas. The level Totem Hokum features a segment where Cortex is chased by a swarm of bees. There are also roach enemies in the level Boiler Room Doom. Cortex's part of the level Classroom Chaos features a sequence where the player is chased by a swarm of beetles.
Debatable. Characters that are all sapient beings try to eat each other on more than one occasion, however they are different species. The character Rusty Walrus chases Crash with the intent to cook and eat him. At the end of the game, a villain character eats two other villain characters of a different species.
In the level "Slip Slide Icecapades" landing on a grind rail while using Cortex as a snowboard. Leads to him landing on his crotch while sliding down the rail. It's not graphic (this is a kids game) and it's played for laughs. But the face on Cortex combined with the metal sound effects can be wince inducing.
A minor antagonist who appears in the level Totem Hokum, Papu Papu, has many negative sterotypes associated with Polynesian and native peoples, being presented as fat, unintelligent, and aggressive towards outsiders. Several other members of Papu's tribe also appear as enemies, being portrayed very similarly.
Not exactly, but there is a brief gag where Cortex calls Nina his daughter but quickly changes it to niece. Do with this information what you will. There's also a joke where he briefly enters an adult club that he owns, and sees his mother there.
