The film follows a troubled couple and their preteen daughter who go on vacation to an isolated house in the Louisiana bayou to reconnect as a family. But when unexpected visitors arrive, their facade of family unity starts to unravel, as terrifying secrets come to light.

To add to the comment, it is implied in the movie that the cat shown later is not the same cat as before, meaning the original cat died. The new cat is also left behind and may have died from that. Another note, the mother says the line “it’s just a cat, we’ll get you a new one” which is very upsetting

They want you to assume a cat is being mangled or attacked by something behind a closed door. There’s a lot of audio of a cat in distress and what sounds like another animal attacking it it you later see the cat is alive ( or so we assume it’s the same cat, it alludes to the fact that Isaac may have brought it back from the dead).
