In the original Evil Dead 2 (half the basis of the musical) Ash is sucked into the portal with the demons and lands in Medieval times, however the play skips the medieval plot and cuts straight to the ending of the 3rd film where Ash ends up at S-Mart and kills a demon in front of all the customers which proves he was telling the truth about his adventures.
