When Taki first goes hunting with some other hunting dogs, he kills all of them once he catches his prey. The hunters who the dogs belonged to demand compensation for the loss of their dogs.
There are three named female characters in the movie - all are heavily wounded or killed.
Devil, Taki's mother, is killed in one blow by Gon.
Hoshi, Taki's mate, is caught in a trap and lays in pain and distress until she is found and killed by Gon.
Sanae is found and almost killed by Gon, then is trapped in the wreckage of a house until the men come along and rescue her.
It's bittersweet, leaning towards bitter.
Taki and Yoshito finally kill Gon - however, both have lost most of their families to the bear. Sanae hears that the dogs' howling at the end is full of anger and sadness.
Gon kills several parents, including:
Devil, the mother of Taki and his siblings.
Hoshi, the mother of Taki's children.
An unnamed mother and two of her children.
Kaneto, Yoshito's father, and Yoshito's mother before the events of the movie.
Tetsu, Taki's father.
Taki's siblings are all killed by Gon over time.
There is a little girl shown, the only survivor of an attack by Gon - her mother and siblings were killed.
Two cases of dogs fighting each other rather than other animals - first is when Taki catches a fox on a hunting trip and fights and kills the other hunting dogs.
Later once Taki finds a pack of wild dogs, he defeats their leader Akamimi in a fight, but spares his life.
Not explicitly, but Sanae's arm is shown in a cast after she is rescued from the wreckage of Yoshito's house - it can be assumed that her arm was broken when the house collapsed.
