During season two when Jeremy is using the slicer in the kitchen he slices his finger horribly and you do see it up close in a later shot. It might not he excessive but it is pretty gross if you're already squeamish about blood.

It seems standard practice so probably not abuse but I'm sure plenty of animal rights activists may be upset so it should be noted: cows have ears tagged, sheep (males) are castrated, and there are farm animals that are taken to slaughter. Ears are shown on screen as is the castration (it's a rubber band method that seems to only bother them initially) but no blood, and the slaughtering is not shown on screen.
