It seems standard practice so probably not abuse but I'm sure plenty of animal rights activists may be upset so it should be noted: cows have ears tagged, sheep (males) are castrated, and there are farm animals that are taken to slaughter. Ears are shown on screen as is the castration (it's a rubber band method that seems to only bother them initially) but no blood, and the slaughtering is not shown on screen.
