It’s very distressing because the cat is clearly upset, and eventually Gayle accidentally lets him out of the box and he runs off. Rest assured that Bob finds him by the end and he’s safe and unharmed by the time they arrive at the Belcher’s.

Though later in the episode it is revealed that the dog was actually still alive, she promptly runs away into the woods when reunited with her owner. It is distressing initially that something bad may happen to her, but it is then revealed rather adorably that the dog and the feared snake are actually friends, and the snake lets the dog cuddle on top of it.
