In the very beginning Ernest backs up down the highway and cars push each other away to avoid him but as it is meant to be comedic that is all that is seen and it is assumed the drivers are okay

No, but the flying sleigh with its reindeer almost does, because its driver can't control it properly. So there is a "Noooo, we're gonna hit the ground and die!" scene ending in a last second save, although it's played for laughs, and everyone overacts on purpose.
