As someone that can handle after-the-fact-dead animals or animals dying quickly, while being completely unable to deal with drawn-out suffering/abuse, I just want to reiterate for cat lovers that the abuse/suffering is on full, unmitigated visual and auditory display here.
Most animal deaths I've seen in other films are slapstick by comparison.

Just to clarify the timing of the scene where the cat gets killed, because I don’t want it to be misunderstood by any other cat lovers. Please note the heartbreaking scene with the cat being killed by the s****y child characters is more like 25 minutes in, NOT ‘almost at the beginning’. I wish it had been a couple minutes into the run time, because I fast-forwarded through that, only to think it was safe to watch because the killing of the adorable cat was done, and then I had to see it about 25 minutes in... just horrible and graphic. I strongly advise my fellow cat lovers who do not want their day ruined to just fast-forward as soon as you see the sociopathic little boy walking up to the friendly little cat at 23 minutes in, don’t look at the screen up to 27 minutes just to be safe. I don’t even want to describe what they do to it, it’s so graphic and cruel.
Trust me on this, you do NOT want to view this sequence if you don’t want to see someone’s cute pet killed, especially a sweet-natured cat.

Cat is killed at 25 minutes in which I *HIGHLY* suggest fast forwarding through if you like cats. Skip the next two minutes. THEN, at 30 minutes in, a child goes back to where the cat was killed to look at the poor cat’s graphically mangled dead body. It only lasts for about 30 seconds.
