This might depend on your interpretation. It ends on a seemingly optimistic note, with Charlie indicating that he feels hope for the first time, although arguably this is a parody of a stereotypically glib Hollywood ending (as Charlie has suffered a major personal loss and possibly sold out in terms of his script). Overall I would say the ending is more tongue-in-cheek than either "happy" or "sad".
