Set in the Mayan civilization, when a man's idyllic presence is brutally disrupted by a violent invading force, he is taken on a perilous journey to a world ruled by fear and oppression where a harrowing end awaits him. Through a twist of fate and spurred by the power of his love for his woman and his family he will make a desperate break to return home and to ultimately save his way of life.

a guy chokes and gags on the way to being executed because he has a rope around his neck, this goes on for a few minutes but he never pukes. there is a scene where they first come across a bunch of people covered in white powder and one of them has blood spill out of his mouth

The entire movie is about the Maya and is a fictional story that presumes to depict what their lives and culture were like. Whether this is accurately represented is hard to say unless you are an expert on this particular civilization.
