**Mild spoilers** Vesper's uncle's 'tribe' is full of children who he keeps in line through intimidation and fear of punishment. He regularly intimidates Vesper, it being said that she's 'scared of him' throughout the film. At one point he sticks a gang of adolescent boys to hunt her down and brand her. Towards the end of the film there are physical altercations between him and her.
